A New Vision for You:  Life Without Credit Card Debt

What would your life be like if you had no credit card debt? Have you ever thought about that? If you’re anything like I was, you haven’t given that a thought.

A little more than ten years ago, when I was wrapped up in about $9,000 of credit card debt, it was all I could do to juggle things to make ends meet. I had no vision, no plan. I just reacted to the monthly statements as they poured in, and pour in they did.

I often reflect on my life at that time, and as I  do, I wonder what I could have done differently, better. What would have had more impact during my transition? One idea keeps surfacing…if I had a mental picture of a specific desirable outcome, my transition would have had more juice, I would have been empowered, even more driven to accomplish my goal of eliminating credit card debt.

If I had imagined myself working part-time instead of full-time, waking up later in the morning, rushing around less, yet still being able to afford to do things I enjoy like eating out, going to the movies, taking vacations, I would have been even more driven. I would have been unstoppable.

What do you dream of doing that you can’t do now because of credit card debt? What goal has a mental pull on you but because of credit card debt, it ultimately becomes a major source of frustration in your life?

As I mentioned before, if you’re anything like I was, you probably haven’t given it a thought, so here are some of the things you can expect when you no longer have credit card debt:

  • If you’re working part-time in addition to your regular job, you now have the the option of giving that up.
  • If you’d like to change careers, but need additional training, you now have the time and money to pursue that.
  • You can finally take the vacation you’ve promised yourself.
  • You can enjoy dinner out without the guilt.
Did you see anything on the list that resonates with you? If you didn’t, that’s okay because one of the reasons for the list is to get you thinking about the ways in which your life would be different if you had no credit card debt., and another reason is to get you to decide to do something to change your financial life.

I remember listening to a radio program where the co-author of the program ''Abundance, Spend Your Way to Wealth" was featured. When the program announcer asked what was the single most important thing a person listening to the program could do, she replied, “Decide.”
